The Nation of Israel: Following the split of the nation of Israel because of the sinfulness of Solomon in his later life as king of Israel, the Northern Kingdom is in rapid decline since the people have rejected GOD and chosen idol worship and false gods.  The worst king yet of the Northern Kingdom, Ahab, has officially sanctioned the worship of Baal through the evil influence of his wife, Jezebel.  Elijah suddenly appears to condemn the king's worship of the false God, Baal.  He challenges the priests of Baal by calling on GOD's power to consume the animal sacrifice in a demonstration that GOD only is the true GOD.  Elijah slew 450 prophets of Baal that day, Ahab continues his wickedness, Elisha joins Elijah and the Northern Kingdom is dispersed.
